In later interviews, Amell would avow that it was the former, and that he remained superb friends with the show's other actors.Nevertheless, he went on to win a Gemini Award for his recurring role on the science fiction thriller "ReGenesis" (The Movie Network, 2004-08) and booked a supporting turn as a childish soldier in the Worl

If only every gay person struggling with their sexuality had a friend like StephenAmell.
I sat down with the actor earlier today while he was promoting his new movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (in theaters June 3) and asked him about his former Arrow co-star Colton Haynes coming out as gay in a magazine article just two weeks ago.
"I'm so happy for Colton," Amell said. "A fan three or four months ago at a Comic-Con convention basically tried to bait me into activity him. I got in touch with [Colton] and was like, 'Hey, dude, this happened [and] I didn't perceive what to tell. I simply deflected and we moved on.'...He emailed me back and said, 'You know, I really appreciate that and I've recently made some decisions over the past few months and I'm excited about what's in the future.' Chelsea Handler should not just assume that a hunky vertical actor minds being hit on my gay men.
Stephen Amell, luminary of The CW’s Arrow, taught Chelsea that lesson last evening when she oddly said: ‘I just want to clarify that you are straight and people should not hit on you if they’re men.’
Replied Stephen: ‘People can hit on me if they want to.’
The audience cheered.
Stephen talked about playing a male lover spin instructor on the Showtime series Queer As Folk and about being on the first season of Dante’s Cove on HERE TV which I was completely hooked on at the time.
Of Dante’s Cove he said: ‘I was the villain because I was the straight ethics. I couldn’t do the reveal the second season and in the second season my ethics went from not gay to really, really, really gay.’
I recollect there was a little bit of controversy over Stephen not returning with it being floated that he was uncomfortable with the character being gay.

Oliver Queen becoming mayor to aid Star City is from Judd Winick's 2003-2008 run on the "Green Arrow" series.
Also, Green Arrow was created in 1941 as just a Batman clone with arrows and continued to be that, with Arrowcaves and Arrowmobiles and the like, for 28 more years until his 1969 reimagining. From 1970 to 1985, Oliver griped about Republican "fat cats" and "The Man", but in 1986, Mike Grell turned Leafy Arrow into a grim vigilante, much more in line with Grell's possess very Conservative beliefs.
This was in the height of the Regan Era and this characterization was a big punch but it kept Oliver isolated from the rest of the heroes in the DC World. After Grell left in 1993, Oliver limped around a few more years until he was killed off in 1995 and replaced by his previously-unknown son.
Hal Jordan brought Oliver back to life in 2001 and writer Kevin Smith brought support a lot of the SLW-ness along with a recent salacious and sexy attitude. Brad Melter followed Smith and concentrated on Oliver's ties to the rest of the DC Universe. Judd Winick settled in in 2003 for a five-year sprint which had a very Liberal Mayor Queen officiating at gay weddings!
