OCD, as we know, is largely about experiencing serious and unrelenting doubt. It can cause you to doubt even the most basic things about yourself – even your sexual orientation. A 1998 review published in the Journal of Sex Research establish that among a collective of 171 college students, 84% reported the occurrence of sexual intrusive thoughts (Byers, et al. 1998). In order to hold doubts about one’s sexual identity, a sufferer want not ever have had a homo- or heterosexual experience, or any type of sexual experience at all. I have observed this symptom in fresh children, adolescents, and adults as well. Interestingly Swedo, et al., 1989, found that approximately 4% of children with OCD experience obsessions concerned with forbidden offensive or perverse sexual thoughts.

A

Abro (sexual and romantic)

A pos used to portray people who own a fluid sexual and/or romantic orientation which changes over time, or the course of their life. They may use different terms to describe themselves over time.

Ace

An umbrella term used specifically to describe a lack of, varying, or occasional experiences of sexual attraction. This encompasses asexual people as successfully as those who identify as demisexual and grey-sexual. Ace people who trial romantic attraction or occasional sexual attraction might also utilize terms such as gay, bi, queer woman, straight and lgbtq+ in conjunction with asexual to narrate the direction of their romantic or sexual attraction.

The Saturday before last was a particularly sunny one. Although I didn’t have much time in my day to spend outside, I decided to take a break and spend half an hour or so reading an actual, physical book. I grabbed my book (On The Highway by Jack Kerouac) and opened my window. My windowsill is big enough that I can fit my entire frame on it if I bend my knees slightly. I live on the ground floor, so if I sit like this, I inevitably enter the gaze of passers-by. This being a sunny Saturday, there were quite a few.

 

 

I couldn’t stop myself from envisioning how those passers-by might be perceiving me as I came into their view. What might they think? Would they remember me? Would they discover me beautiful? Would they discover me odd? I couldn’t aid but try to adopt a pleasant yet intellectual expression. I wondered whether my outfit—jeans and a navy blue T-shirt, accomplish with armfuls of gold jewellery—matched my book. Did I glance like the sort of stylish, easy-going, esoterically earthy girl who might plausibly enjoy Jack Kerouac?
